These day-old hatchlings are locally sourced from Northwest Heritage Quail in Pullman, WA. They are humanely harvested using CO₂ gas.
Freeze-Dried vs. Raw — What's the Difference?
Freeze-drying removes moisture at low temperatures without heat, so you get all the nutrition of raw with the convenience of shelf-stable storage. Compared to a fresh raw hatchling:
-
Same nutrients, less mess — protein, fat, and the nutrient-dense unabsorbed yolk sac are fully preserved, with no refrigeration needed.
-
Lighter & crunchier — freeze-dried hatchlings weigh roughly 1–2 g each (down from ~8–10 g fresh) and have a satisfying crunch many pets love.
-
Longer shelf life — no preservatives needed; moisture removal does the work.
Benefits
Nutritionally superior to many treats thanks to the intact, unabsorbed yolk sac — making them a calorie-rich, nutrient-dense training reward. Perfect for small dogs and cats as a full treat, or as a bite-sized training morsel for larger dogs. Hatchlings come in a variety of natural colors.
Portion Guidance
Because of their rich yolk-sac nutrition, treats should make up no more than 10% of your pet's daily calorie intake. General starting points:
-
Cats & small dogs (under 10 lb) — 1 hatchling per day as a treat.
-
Medium dogs (10–40 lb) — 1–2 hatchlings per day.
-
Large dogs (40 lb+) — 2–3 hatchlings per day, broken into pieces for training repetitions.
Adjust based on your pet's overall diet, weight, and activity level. When in doubt, consult your veterinarian.
Supervision & Handling
-
Always supervise your pet while enjoying their treat.
- For small pets or fast eaters, consider breaking the hatchling into halves or quarters before offering.
- Wash hands before and after handling raw or freeze-dried whole-prey products.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Not intended for human consumption.
Storage
Keep in a cool, dry place. Our freeze-dried products are free of preservatives and pesticides. Although very uncommon, bugs and mold (from added moisture) are the two things to watch for. For longer storage, the freezer is a great option to keep products fresh and away from pests.
How to Consume
For intermittent and supplemental feeding only. Always supervise your pet while enjoying their treat.
